I've killed a few raccoons out at my grandma's old place on the Bartlett farm at Palmer, Arkansas. Hickory Hill Ridge they called it. Uncle George had an old sawmill and there was a wooden bridge that had sunk under water that is still there. There was an old trapper that lived in the house down the field row from my grandma and more than one raccoon escaped from the trap with a foot missing that i dispatched and sold to the fur dealer at Holly Grove.

Hot July Hunting - Squirrel

Squirrel hunting is my favorite kind of hunting. When I was a teen in high school I spent my whole weekends sometimes in the woods watching and hunting squirrels. Sometimes I would have a dog with me but most times I was alone and would stalk a bushy tail. My eyes are worse now and having to keep up with glasses to see straight to shoot is sometimes a problem but I still love to get out in the woods. Fried squirrel and squirrel dumplins were a staple at my house growing up.

I've never been on a coyote hunt but I think I'd like to go. I've seen videos of guys sitting in the bed of a truck with a pa sound system calling in coyotes to shoot.

Hot July Hunting - Bullfrogs

 photo bullfrog.jpg

I love a good mess of frog legs but it's been years since I went out on the creeks and ditches to spear these buggers. There were definitely some hot nights filled with gigging frogs, drinking beer, courting girls, and running from dads usually all in the same night.
